An Era End with Freeloader.Hypermart shutdown
Moral Don't trust in free web hosts like Hypermart
OK, it's final. The Freeloader.hypermart.net site that I've operated since 1997 is D-E-A-D.
The grounds are "excessive bandwidth usage" but the site operators couldn't be bothered to inform me of the overload. Or charge my credit card.
Yes, Dorothy: either you provide credit card details when signing up or you don't get an account! Of course, even if my card was debited I have little legal recourse since under US law you don't have to have a written debit authorization (unlike in India).
If you too host with Hypermart, get out now (this blog's still on my secondary Hypermart sites, but will shortly move to a more permanent home). The default address for my site until further notice is http://www.pobox.com/~gmenon.
G Menon (my mail address' a bit further down this blog :)
I've taken stock of what I've lost: several irreplaceable software registries. And 8 files dating to a pre-WWW era. Some of my writing for which I don't have backups and some more stuff. First there was disbelief, then tears (yes, real men do cry even when they're not eating quiche). And finally anger: Fuck You Hypermart.
